Geography of Sri Lanka...

Sri Lanka is located at 7.8731° N, 80.7718° E. The total area of this fantastic island is approximately 65 610 km2. Three main relief zones have been identified based on the altitude.
        01. Coastal Zone
        02. Interior Plain
        03. Central hill country
In the coastal zone, you can find lagoons, headlands, bays, peninsulas, marshes, sea cliffs, deltas, and islands. One can visit lagoons such as Negambo, Puttlam, Jaffna, and Batticaloa. Point Pedro, Dondra Head, Sangamankanda point are some of the headlands one can visit. In Sri Lanka, Arugam Bay is the most popular bay among the visitors. Weligama, Koddiyar, Hollan bays are some other bays anyone can attend. Muthurajawela is the most common marsh in Sri Lanka. Biological diversity is very extreme in this area. 

In the interior plain, undulating lands, such as Anuradhapura, Polonnaruwa, Ampara, monadnocks such as Sigiriya, Ritigala, Kataragama, and mountain ranges such as Bulutota, Rakwana are the prominent relief features.

The central hill country is the most diverse part of Sri Lanka. There are beautiful mountain ranges, waterfalls, gaps, and plateaus. Mountain ranges such as Piduruthalagala, Samanala, Haputale, Namunukula, and Knuckles are trendy among both local and foreign visitors. There are lots of waterfalls situated in the hill country. Bambarakanda, which is the highest waterfall, Diyaluma, Dunhida, Laxapana, Ramboda, are a few waterfalls.


When considering the drainage of Sri Lanka, there are 103 rivers, and 34 of them are originated from the central hill country. The rivers which originated from the central hill country show a radial drainage pattern. Also, these 34 rivers are considered perennial streams since they carry water over the whole year. Others are regarded as seasonal rivers. The longest river in Sri Lanka is the Mahaweli river, 335 km, which originated from the Samanala mountain range and end up at Trincomalee. Malwatu Oya is the second-longest river, which is 164 km long. Kala Oya, Kelani river, Yan Oya, Deduru Oya, and Walawe river are some other rivers that flow on the island.
